Sun City and Sun City West share a common history and therefore have mutual interests in a variety of issues.
To find the best opportunities for both communities, officials from the HOA organization of each community began conducting joint, informal meetings, according to Jim Hunter, Sun City Home Owners Association board president. The meetings are not open to the public at this time, but are designed to find the solutions to problems and find ways to capitalize on opportunities, according to Ritchie Miller, SCHOA board member.
“I believe these meetings will be fruitful,” he said.
In addition to issues and opportunities, Mr. Hunter said each organization can learn from the other.
“They have an information technology committee and we don’t,” he said. “There are areas where we can help each other.”
Both SCHOA and the Property Owners and Residents Association of Sun City West have taken on roles of community advocacy in the past decade. Their colaboration on issues, such as utility rates, have benefited residents in both communities.
“Continuing to work together on these things will give us more say in these matters,” Mr. Ricthie said.
For a number of years, SCHOA and PORA have co-hosted legislative update meetings while the state governing body is in session from January to April. The agencies plan to continue this activity.
“But we can do more, and these joint meetings will help us figure out what more we can do,” Mr. Hunter said.
