Sun City resident H. Berkeley Rourke released his new book in January.
“The Ghost” is part of a 2-book Jeanne de Leon novel series. It is one of more than 12 books Rourke, 84, published through his life.
A vicious rapist is loose on the Scalian University campus. He thinks he’s invisible with campus authorities covering things up. He likes it that way. But she was not his first and she will not be his last. Until TThe Ghost accidentally beats his victim to death and becomes a killer. Can he still hide from authorities?
Detective Jeanne de Leon is on the case, wading through a campus cover-up and the layers of lies that followed. What will she uncover in this tangled web? How will it all end?
Rourke is a lifelong Arizona resident. He was born in Douglas and grew up in Parker. Before moving to Sun City last year, he lived in Florence then Mesa. He attended both Arizona State College before and after it became Northern Arizona University and law school at the University of Arizona. He also served 4.5 years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
Rourke practiced law as both a private and a public practitioner from 1973 until 2004. He began his writing in 2003. He published and taken out of circulation several books, and still have 13 books on the market. They represent three major genres of writing — police procedural/mystery/serial murder novels, dystopian novels and western stories.
“Many times I have said my lifetime has been blessed with many iterations — student, warrior, teacher, lawyer and writer,” Rourke said. “Who could ask for more.”
His children are all native Arizonans, all but one still living in the state.
“Golf has been a passion for many years, but writing became my hobby, my task, my center,” Rourke said.
