If someone opines that SCW is a “Golfing Community,” consider the reason for this claim. As calling Sun City West a “Golfing Community” may well be only a shallow effort to justify costly and yearly increases of your dues. Sun City West is, in fact, a retirement community. According to one estimate, less than 25% of the owner-residents use any of the seven golf courses.
The “Strategic Plan” contains a section entitled “Infrastructure: Golf, Sports Pavilion and Facilities Activities.” Of the nine “action items” listed under this heading, seven are devoted to golf/golfing.
The “strategic plan” also contains an exceedingly interesting “action item,” which is as follows: “Create a store with unique Sun City West logo items.”
Not so long ago, we had a beautiful Village Store in Sun City West.
Perhaps, the most alarming “action item” is as follows: “Investigate purchasing or leasing additional properties.”
You may well find it disquieting to go over this document, but as a resident-owner it is your responsibility. I did not see any dollar signs in it during my review, but I saw the cost. Kindly take time to read the document carefully, and consider the potential ramifications it has for you and for the community at-large. You have a right to be heard!
