PERFORMANCE

The Sun City Concert Band’s first concert of 2022 is the annual John Philip Sousa Concert, entitled “Sousa and Friends,” 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 in the Sundial Auditorium, 14801 N. 103rd Ave.
The concert will feature music by a variety of composers, including fine marches, lively polkas and engaging medleys, all in the Sousa concert style.
The Sun City Concert Band is under the direction of Ken Jaeger, who brings his more than 40 years of experience and audience rapport to the podium. The Associate Conductor is Charles Musgraves, director of the Desert Brass Band. The concert will also feature trumpet soloist Dan Reed and a saxophone quartet with Roger Callahan, Gary Tschudy, Barry Clapper and Tim Kelly.
John Philip Sousa is responsible for bringing the United States Marine Band to an unprecedented level of excellence, a standard upheld by every Marine Band Director since. Sousa accepted the position of U.S. Marine Band Director in 1880 becoming the band’s 17th Leader. In his 12 years as Leader of the Marine Band, he served under five presidents and the experience he gained with the Marine Band would be applied to his civilian band for the next 39 years. With his own band, Sousa’s fame and reputation would grow to even greater heights.
Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door beginning 1 p.m. the day of the performance.
