Schacht: Waiver denial was proper route to take

Posted

I’m a current home owner and member of the softball club who was against the club being allowed to seek a waiver to allow co-mingling with Sun City.

Residents of Sun City West need to know several facts pertaining to what was allowed to happen over the last 20 years. The club was in direct violations of our rules, regulations and procedures. The word co-mmingle doesn’t exist in the rules, regulations and procedures, only reciprocal play is allowed by definition.

The softball club, past and present, board members were bound by the waiver to vote within the club yearly on co-mingling and needed it to be ratified by the governing board, which they rarely did over the past 20 years. Some Members of our own club were only being allowed to participate at our recreation softball facility once weekly, while outside residents were utilizing the facility three and, in some cases, four times per week.

Committees made up of both Sun City and Sun City West within the clubs were setting policies and disciplinary procedures over Sun City West club members although Sun City players are not members of the Sun City West club. Several issues still remain.

It’s defined in rules, regulations and procedures that no club can put undue restrictions on a club members, but the club currently has a 70s league that restricts those under age 70. As a homeowner, I firmly believe that all the recreation facilities within the community should be utilized by Sun City West residents first and foremost who pay to maintain our facilities.
