Rockhounds West members travel to Lake Pleasant

Posted

Members of Rockhounds West recently journeyed to nearby Lake Pleasant for calcite crystals. They roamed the collection site to pick up specimans, which were easily found on the ground. This collection site also included a geologic vein where Rockhounder Ken Cox chiseled out large calcite samples available for members to take back home.

Members also stopped for lunch at the nearby Wild Horse West Bar and Grill.

Rockhounds West meets 2:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month, from November to March, in the R.H. Johnson Lecture Hall. Meetings include a short business review, details of upcoming trips and events and feature a guest speaker.

Official trips suspend in the summer and resume in November. During the summer, the Hounds gather for monthly breakfasts and an occasional ice cream and pie social.

Contact Robert Cline, president, at 202-716-9994, or visit Rockhounds.scwclubs.com for more information. Dues are $10 with no monitoring requirements.
