Robert John Gilbert - Bob - passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023. He was born in Cambridge,MA on June 22,1940 and grew up in Melrose, MA known as “Hockey Town”. Through pond skating at a young age, his love for hockey was firmly established. In his senior year of high school, he was a proud member of the Greater Boston League Hockey Championship team and was also voted to that All-Star team as a stalwart defenseman. In later years he continued playing & coaching for various teams in the Washington D.C.area.   After high school, he worked in the insurance industry, but chose to enter the Army Reserve Program. Upon completion, he returned to work at Blue Cross/ Blue Shield in their computer division. This opportunity enhanced his interest in the field which later prompted his move to Washington,D.C. where he became Vice President of Data Services. He later went on to become Administrator of General Services for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. At the conclusion of his career, he and his wife, Diane, moved to AZ and built their dream home in Surprise. During these years they traveled extensively. After Diane’s demise, Bob chose to move to Sun City. Bob is survived by his devoted son and daughter in law, John Casey and Shannon Gilbert of TX, his loving daughter,Erin Gilbert of New York and his dedicated, sister Elizabeth (Betty) Gilbert, and her supportive life partner, John (Jake) Keough of MA.and FL.,and especially his most cherished grandchildren, Calvin, Katey and Megan. Bob was a kind and generous man who lived life to the fullest. Memorial Service: Saturday, January 21 at Camino Del Sol: 13738 W. Camino Del Sol, Sun City West, AZ 85375 at 10AM.
