Regarding the golf courses and the RCSCW dues

Posted

I’ve lived here for 37 years. Served on the Governing Board, chaired Public Relations, Human Resources, & Fitness Committees. Through volunteerism, I interacted with residents and employees.

We do need the golf Courses and everything else Del Webb’s vision built, and yes, we need to support higher dues to pay for what we have and may need in the future!

Regarding dues, I, too, feel the pinch of the higher cost of living, my own dwindling cash reserves and a reduction in physical abilities. I don’t utilize all the facilities, or take advantage of all amenities. However, I am not shocked when dues are raised. The cost of maintaining a home is almost unbearable; so it makes sense that the Rec Center is experiencing the same thing in cost increases. These buildings, grounds, “adult playgrounds” cost money to maintain. If they are allowed to deteriorate, all of our properties will face the consequences.

Nobody forced anybody to move to Sun City West. We knew when we moved here that there were golf courses, tennis courts, pools, etc.  We knew we had to pay dues whether we used the facilities or not.  It would be a travesty to try to change or eliminate the enjoyment of others in the community simply because we, personally, did not use or enjoy it.

Being unhappy and complaining is not healthy. If you have better ideas or special qualifications, get involved. Join committees, run for Governing Board, volunteer.  If this is not your “cup of tea,” perhaps consider moving to a different retirement community that suits your needs and wants more closely. Support and respect residents and employees. This is a retirement paradise!
