Reader responds to Dottie Reedy’s SCW Rec Center Dues letter

I'm amazed at the number of more recent residents of Sun City West who apparently didn't research where they planned to make their new home.
You all must have moved from places where it was almost free to live. We've been here 30 years, and with the 2 Recreation Center cards and our property tax combined yearly are still, at this point, paying only 1/3 of what our property tax was in Pennsylvania.
We have never used the rec centers in all these years except when we had company years ago, and would pay for guest passes so they could use the rec centers.
I play on a league at the bowling alley, but I pay for that. Back there, along with the high property tax, you could join Myofitness, Five elements, Optimal Health, Center for Fitness and Health or the YMCA, which was the least expensive at $648 per year.
I hope we're long gone before this community is turned into a routine place to live where they do away with the rec cards and bring in a Mayor, council, police force, dept. of public works, etc., all of which have to be paid, and you'll be wanting the rec cards back.
My husband and I each put in 20 years of volunteering, which also keeps the cost of living here down, and there are people who have put in a lot more years than that. There was a lot more volunteerism 20-30 years ago, but a lot has changed to the detriment of the community.
