Reader makes suggestions to those against Opinions pages

I wish to offer gentle suggestions for my fellow residents who are hammering the Independent's Opinions page with angry, entitled, outraged letters.

My first gentle suggestion is to take the Civility Pledge and honor it; do so before you write your letter. You'll find it at the beginning of every Opinions page. If you cannot imagine honoring our Civility Pledge, perhaps our warm, friendly, welcoming town is not for you, not your "happy place". 

My second suggestion is for you to reevaluate why you chose to purchase a home in a retirement resort community with pools and rec centers and seven fine golf courses. If you are now questioning why you have to pay the SCW Rec Center fees that every other member here pays every year, perhaps it is time for you to reread the documents and rules you signed and agreed to when you chose to purchase here. If you no longer use the golf courses in our community and feel it is a burden to continue to participate in our resort community, please sell to someone who wants to be here.

We don't want you to be unhappy here, and we don't want you to try to make us unhappy with our choice to live here.
