RCSCW member wants to see candidates at meetings

Posted

Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board candidate John Schalk recently responded to criticism about himself and other candidates not attending board meetings in person by saying he watches the meetings live on YouTube with “coffee in hand.”

In the same statement, Mr. Schalk suggested money could be saved by replacing the failed parts on a broken golf course well pump instead of doing a full replacement. Maybe Mr. Schalk was pouring himself another cup of coffee when this matter was discussed during the Feb. 14 governing board workshop. The discussion explained why a full replacement was the best solution.

Mr. Schalk could have asked questions in real time during the meeting by typing them into YouTube chat. Rather than make simple enquiries to arrive at the truth, it appears that he chose to imply that the governing board has irresponsibly wasted money.

It is vitally important that candidates stay abreast of current, relevant issues and ask appropriate questions rather than simply make assumptions.
My wish is that voters will take into consideration the importance of candidates being in attendance at governing board meetings and will vote accordingly.

Some, such as Nick Turner, are known to regularly attend such meetings in person, whereas others are rarely, if ever, seen.

As a result of Mr. Turner’s attendance, he is keenly aware of the current details and the status of the various issues and events being discussed. As such, I recommend that we, as residents of SCW, vote for Nick Turner in the upcoming governing board election.
