The Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board monthly workshop was March 14. The 2025-2026 financial budget and all capital and significant maintenance projects were presented and open for discussion. As usual, it was sparsely attended.
It was interesting that of the 12 resident owners in attendance, four were governing board candidates Becknell, Bennett, Forsey and Turner. John Chattin, as a board member, would have been there, but had a family emergency. Missing were candidates Burks, Hanzel, Mancuso, Ruzic and Schalk.
This is not unusual. Five candidates seem to be in regular attendance, learning and preparing for office. They have been regulars for many months, some for several years. Some of the other five have put in an occasional appearance but only after they declared their candidacy.
Which candidates running in this year’s election actually have a commitment to involve themselves in the governance of SCW? Which are putting in the time? As they say, actions speak louder than words.
