The Palo Verde Patchers honored three combat veterans at the February Honor Quilt presentation. The first honoree was Joe Ellis, who served in the Army from 1967-70. He was a door gunner crew chief for the 189th Assault Helicopter Company from 1968-69 in Vietnam. The second honoree was Randy Zimmerman, who served in the Army Infantry from 1967-69 as a platoon leader in Vietnam. He was involved in many combat missions during that time. The third honoree was Jim Bevard, who also served in the Army as a radio carrier for the Company Commander in Vietnam as well as a squad leader.
The Honor Quilt program gives all participants an opportunity to thank these veterans for their service and to understand the sacrifice these men and women made for the United States. The presentations are open to the public and PVP welcomes members of the community to join in. Presentations are 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month, October through May (excluding December), in the PVP clubroom at the Kuentz center. The next presentation will be April 19. Those who know a local resident who served the U.S. in a combat zone can contact Pam Boley at 602-727-4343 for more information.
Palo Verde Patchers club rooms at the Kuentz center and are open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday (until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday) and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday. Announcement meetings are 10 a.m. the first, third and fourth Tuesdays. Monthly general meetings are 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the R.H. Johnson Social Hall. Visitors are welcome at all meetings.
