The fitness centers reopened the doors to the facilities Aug. 31 and Sept. 3, with Palm Ridge Recreation Center, 12800 Deer Valley Drive, allowing patrons in first, then R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 N. R.H. Johnson Blvd.

Taking a glance at the numbers provided by Recreation Centers of Sun City West officials, more visitors have frequented Palm Ridge fitness center since the first reopening prior to Gov. Doug Ducey’s state closure of gyms.

A Monday at Palm Ridge Aug. 26, 2019 the facility had 1,086 visitors. The indoor walking track was used by 365 people, the fitness center had 288 people, the spa at 46 and the pool had 282 individuals.

On May 25, which was also a Monday and the first day the facility reopened after the initial spring closure, 181 total people stopped in. The biggest use was in the pool where 110 people checked in, followed by 67 at the fitness center and four at the spa.

On the first Monday of the second reopening Aug. 31, 373 total people visited Palm Ridge with 158 at the pool, 117 at the indoor walking track, 81 in the fitness center, 14 in the spa and three in personal fitness.

Currently, the signup procedure allows for individuals to use a paper sheet at the entrances of the facility doors to reserve a one-hour window of time to exercise in the fitness room for future use.
