NSDAR regent, treasurer attend Tucson workshop
Posted
Regent Nancy Nixon and Treasurer Claudia Burr, of the Estrella Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, attended “Happy Talk” in Tucson, a welcome back workshop held at the Hilton Hotel East.
It was a time to get together with other DAR chapter officers and members and learn about the plans of the new national DAR and Arizona DAR administrations.
As a new treasurer, Burr had the opportunity to attend training sessions and meet new and returning treasurers from other DAR chapters across the state. Nixon attended the regents’ workshop for a refresher and renewed acquaintance with many other chapter regents along with meeting many who are new regents.
Dinner commemorated the 247th anniversary of the founding of the Presidio of Tucson Aug. 20, 1775, and the Revolutionary War Patriots who donated pesos to the cause of American independence. Dr. Rudy Byrd’s address described the events surrounding the founding. Daughters of the American Revolution Society was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism and these timeless overarching principles keep the DAR and its chapters strong and relevant in this ever-changing world.
Women descendants of persons who served or aided the cause of the Revolution are eligible to join. Call Nixon at 623-332-7894 for more information.
The Estrella Chapter meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
