Newberg: My flag weeps for America in current state

Posted

I was asked why I have a torn and tattered flag hanging on the wall outside my garage? My answer to them is, when America becomes the land of the free and the home of the brave, I will be happy to take that old flag down and put up a new one.

Until then, until we come together as a nation, when people can walk down the street and not get shot because of their color, preferences or religious beliefs.

When police officers are praised for the sometimes very difficult work, not judged as killers. When justice prevails, then I will replace my flag. When parents don’t have to be frightened to send their children to school, for fear that they may not come home. When students learn how to read and write, not only learn what some teachers feel necessary to teach them what is not on their curriculum, then and only then, will I take my torn flag down.

The list is too long to continue, I just hope that when you read this, you will find a way to make our world a safer place, and then we could all hang the most beautiful flag in the world.
