New quilt on display at Sun City West library

Posted

“Reptile Standoff,” a quilt done by Palo Verde Patchers club member Victoria Plesa, is on display at the R.H. Johnson Library.

Plesa’s husband selected this pattern by Giggling Gecko Designs and asked her to make it. During the two weeks it took her to make the quilt, her husband kept checking on her progress.

Plesa used machine applique and free motion quilting to construct this quilt. She felt lucky to find fabric that looked like “scales.” The most challenging parts of this quilt were the geckos backs and how best to do the quilting. She quilted this quilt on her domestic machine.

Plesa started quilting in California after retirement in 2003. An elderly neighbor invited her to visit her quilt club, and she was hooked on quilting.

Plesa teaches some classes and is always ready to help other members who have questions about quilting.
