Loch: All buyers know of Sun Cities’ age restriction

Posted

Really, “the good guys win” (“Board decision should end harassment,” Sun City Independent, March 8, 2023), inferring the 88 Sun City residents are the bad guys.

All of Sun City home buyers sign the adult addendum stating the restrictions, including the age restriction. In more than six decades people have moved to comply with the age restriction.  Now the 88 Sun City residents who signed formal complaints are “uncaring and uniformed people who have been cleared away.”

“Poor” Warren and mother Cheryl retained an attorney who read the county the “riot act” about disability and housing issues and what is required of them as they are “way out of compliance.” Where was Sun City’s attorney? The County appears neutral. Sun City is filled with disabled people, as that’s what happens with age. Also, seniors need affordable housing. There is new affordable housing in Phoenix, and more is being built.

Affordability and Disability are not good reasons to break the Sun City age restriction.

Who is protecting Sun City? All it took was the county and an HOA to approve the decision that Cheryl and Warren would not be forced to move. It has nothing to do with liking this family but now there seems to be loopholes. Cheryl’s attorney points out the county needs to conform with state and national disability legislation. I believe Sun City is in compliance when you look at the demographics.

Where is the Sun City Home Owners Association in all of this?
