Local club members support charity project

It was “all hands on deck” when members of Rip ’N Sew of Sun City West took part in a recent Days for Girls charity project.

Club member and Days for Girls International volunteer Shari Jones provided the materials and club members cut out the kit pieces and sewed. The club will have Days for Girls sew-ins on the first Wednesday in June, July and August.

The club sews for charities and welcomes fabric and sewing donations. They make quilts for Hospice of the Valley; Agave Care Home of Scottsdale, RISE Services Inc., victims of crime, accidents or fire through the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Arizona Fire & Medical Authority. They also sew clothing and quilts for members of the Navajo Nation, doll clothes and other items for children in foster care, as well as book bags and clothing for children in several school districts.

During the special sew-in for Days for Girls International, club members devoted several days to making small, reusable fabric kits for menstruating women and girls who lack access to commercial products. The sew-in’s finished kits went to Ukraine, where the war has seen women and children fleeing to other countries.
