Lamont: Patient gets good treatment at hospital

Posted

I recently experience a health issue, which was very serious. This letter is about MD Anderson Cancer Center and Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, both at 14502 W. Meeker, Blvd., Sun City West.

From day one, when I went to the Women’s Center at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, I was treated with so much kindness. I can’t say enough about how great they are. Dr. Hannah Lawther, in the Women’s Center, is wonderful, very caring, very talented.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is ranked number one for cancer care in the nation. They have decades of experience, top national rankings and leadership in cancer prevention that set them apart. They have been working to eliminate cancer for more than seven decades. We are so fortunate to have them in Sun City West.

Dr. Kelly Rosso, my surgeon from MD Anderson Cancer Center, is the best. She is so good at what she does, but also so kind. She gives her patients a relaxed, comfortable feeling of just how much she cares. The entire staff at MD Anderson is wonderful. All questions are answered any time of the day.

The day of surgery, like everyone else, I was so nervous and, of course, worried. I was at the hospital at 5:20 a.m. It’s very quiet at that time of day in the surgical department. By 5:45 a.m. things were buzzing. Everyone busy doing their jobs in a very affection way. A nurse came in to ask me what my favorite color was, I told her and in a few minutes she came back with three beautiful quilts, I could pick one! I chose a quilt that is very colorful and happy. When I woke up from surgery the quilt was still over me. It even made the nurses smile.

These quilts are made with so much care and love by the Sun City Grand Stitchers for all breast cancer patients. This is a wonderful thing for the patients in the hospital and at home, it just makes you happy.

Your care doesn’t end when you get home, even if it’s a weekend. Someone from the hospital called the next day to check on me and to see if I had questions. Sunday I called MD Anderson because I had a question. I was connected to one of doctors who answered my question.

I am writing this because I know there are ladies out there who are just beginning this journey. I am hoping it will help them understand what’s going to happens and how much help and kindness they will receive. I have already received one call from a friend going through this and she is so frightened and upset. Maybe this letter will help.

My journey with this horrible disease is not over. However, I know I am in good hands, getting the best care possible.
