Kenneth ‘Ken’ Stanley Mowry

Posted

Kenneth of Sun City, Arizona died on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the age of 87. After several months of declining health and complications from a fall, Ken passed peacefully with his wife ‘Sweet Dora’ and their children by his side.
Ken was born in Tabor, Iowa to George and Gertrude Mowry on October 19, 1933 and from his father’s work as a career missionary, he and his family traveled extensively in the ‘corn-belt’.
After completing high school, he married his beloved Dora, was immediately drafted into the Army at age 19 and was stationed in Korea during the war from 1953-1955.
After returning to civilian life, Ken and Dora moved to Phoenix, started a family, and he returned to his previous job with Western Electric. Ken advanced quickly in the business by earning a reputation for ‘troubleshooting’ which eventually lead to being promoted to a supervisory position for half the state of Arizona. He had a gift for administration and loved the work, although he was not too fond of the occasional commute to remote microwave installations by helicopter.
After a successful 31-year career with the company, rich in both professional and lifelong personal relationships, Ken retired at the age of 48. Subsequently, he and Dora enjoyed a run of nearly 40 additional years together in retirement, filled with their church, family, close friends and travel. Ken truly lived life on his own terms.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter Mowry (Lee). He is survived by his wife, Dora Mowry; children: Greg Mowry (Katherine, Haley & Rachael), Carol Garard (Ken, Patrick & Julie) and Dean Mowry (Nancy); sister, Winnie Builderback (Jack & Lani); and brother, Donald Mowry (daughters Serena & Carisa).
Memorial services to be announced later.
