John Pizzarelli to perform in Wickenburg

Jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli returns to the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts in Wickenburg with his newest show, featuring music from the Broadway stage and the “silver screen.” His performance is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 1090 S. Vulture Mine Road. This “Stage & Screen” show also includes special guests, bassist Mike Karn and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson.

Pizzarelli’s “Stage & Screen” concert program finds inspiration in classic songs from Broadway musicals and Hollywood films. The repertoire spans nearly nine decades, starting with a pair of songs from the 1925 musical, “No, No, Nanette” (“I Want To Be Happy” and “Tea For Two”), and leading into the 21st century with “I Love Betsy” from Jason Robert Brown’s “Honeymoon in Vegas” – a stage musical based on the 1992 film.

In between there are pieces by iconic songwriters and composers such as Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein II and Leonard Bernstein, as well as songs immortalized in cinema favorites like “As Time Goes By” from “Casablanca.”

Son of legendary jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, Pizzarelli’s show also celebrates the 40th anniversary of his 1983 debut recording, “I’m Hip (Please Don’t Tell My Father).”

Tickets are on sale now, starting at $40 for adults and $5 for ages 18 and younger. Call the Webb Center box office at 928-684-6624 or visit dewpac.org.
