Jeanne Berridge

Posted
Patricia “Jeanne” Heckel Berridge passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 in Sun City West, AZ. Jeanne was born January 19, 1942 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Alford “Albert” Heckel and Helen Davis Thompson. The Heckel family moved to Larchmont, NY where Jeanne attended Mamaroneck High School. She then spent two years at Wheaton College in Massachusetts before marrying Dr. William “Lloyd” Berridge, Jr. in 1963. The couple settled in Ann Arbor, MI where they raised their two daughters and traveled often. While the girls were finishing high school, Jeanne resumed her love of learning and, in 1981, finished her bachelor’s in art history at the University of Michigan. Over the next couple of decades, Jeanne pursued her passion for interior design, holding several jobs in this field while living in Yuma and Prescott, AZ and in Fayetteville, GA. Wherever she went, she followed Michigan football across time zones. Her time in Arizona inspired the nickname “Grandma of the Mountains” to her grandchildren, and in 2015, she returned and settled in Sun City West, AZ. In each place she lived, Jeanne was an active member of her church community, a beloved neighbor, a loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. Known for her warmth, generosity, and quick-witted humor, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Helen Heckel of Larchmont, NY; her brothers Theodore “Ted” Heckel of Moss Landing, CA and Richard “Chard” (Patricia) Heckel of Canton, MI; her former husband and lifelong friend Dr. William “Lloyd” Berridge, Jr. of Ann Arbor, MI; and her daughter Mary Frisinger of Chelsea, MI. She is survived by her daughter Martha (Mark) Link of Chicago, IL; a brother Thomas Heckel of Chile; two granddaughters, Ashley (Josh Guberman) Wiseman and Mary Link; a grandson, John Link; and a son-in-law Scott (Mary) Frisinger. A memorial service will be held at Advent Episcopal Church in Sun City West, with details forthcoming. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org/donate or Paws with a Cause at www.pawswithacause.org/donatebutton.
