Holden: Poor planning led to low turnout at music festival

It was not a surprise that they didn’t have a big attendance at the Bases and Brews Music Fest (“Encore, anyone?” Surprise Independent, April 12, 2023).

One, it was “almost” last minute for a big event like this. Think event did not fit the bill. I believe that many folks in Surprise and surrounding areas had no clue of this event.

Having this event at the same time on top is spring training is crazy. Even if they could have had it at Mark Coronado Park (eight-acre grass), parking is still an issue with a game going on at the same time. If the anticipated crowds showed up at least on Saturday, folks would have to park at City Hall.

Why have it overlap? With spring training ending earlier these past couple of years, have it right after. Spring breaks around the country is still in play in many areas.

Why the name? One brew. Really? Bases? Why?

Sundancers were asked to volunteer at the event, just a couple of days before. It was short notice. Of the folks I know that put their names on the form, including me, we never got a heads up on what’s next. So, some of us just no-showed.

I think this could be a great event.
