Guest Commentary: PORA working on ways to connect

Posted

With the pandemic upon us, information is changing rapidly. We have been working hard at PORA to get out timely and accurate updates and news.

We are delivering information through our website, porascw.org, our Friday e-newsletter and our social media. Supporting Sun City West and advocating for the community is the mission at PORA. With Phase 3 of our opening underway, we are creating new ways to reach residents and stay connected with the community.

One of the benefits of being a PORA member is having access to referrals from the entire vendor database of 450-plus business partners. Members can call or email to get a referral. Some PORA vendors can be found on porascw.org; access to the entire vendor database is reserved for those members who call, email or visit the office.

To keep our valued vendors in the spotlight, in addition to the typical referral process PORA offers, we are featuring a short “coffee-shop” style Zoom meeting with a vendor once per month for the community called “Tuesday Talk.” The Zoom meeting is meant to have a casual feel where residents can log in with Zoom to receive PORA updates and news and then hear from a business partner. To date, the Zoom Talk has featured nutrition, transportation, and roofing and remodeling vendors. The next talk will be 10 a.m. Dec. 29 and will focus on nutrition in the new year. Courtney Christi, Nutrition Thyme CEO, will join us on Zoom to talk about strategies for healthy eating and staying well in 2021. Time will be allotted for participants to ask questions.

The community can participate by emailing PORA at editor@porascw.org and asking for a Zoom invite before Monday, Dec. 28. In previous Zoom talks, vendors have offered coupons or complimentary giveaways.

The best way to stay informed is to participate. Virtual meetings are a good option for staying safe. As PORA cautiously brings in-person services back, we will continue the Tuesday Talk Zoom meetings as another way to stay connected.
