Golf car parade supports Sun City West

Posted

The Sun City West Foundation and Sun City West Witches Ride group teamed up last month to celebrate spring break with the RCSCW Munchie Mondays with the Munchkins.

The Witches Ride wanted to support the Foundation and the Foundation wanted to host something fun for grandchildren on their spring breaks. The Yellow Brick Road golf car parade and mini-carnival was the result of this collaboration and it fit perfectly with the Munchie Monday event the Recreation Centers of Sun City West were already holding.

Witches Ride members and the community were encouraged to sign up for the parade and make a donation to the Foundation, as well as don their “Wizard of Oz” costumes. Although there weren’t as many cars as in the fall Witches parade, they more than made up with their car decorations. Good witches, wicked witches, flying monkeys and more than a few Dorothys were on hand to make the parade a success with fun and donations.

The live band and carnival games for the event were sponsored by Shelly Hilton and Diane Maehl of Epique Realty.

Anne Becknell challenged the men to participate in the event in costume. She pledged a donation for each gentleman who dressed up as an Oz character and had to put her money where her mouth was with a personal donation of $1,000.

Total proceeds from the Yellow Brick Road Parade were $2,285, which will be used to further programs that support the community and Helping Hands.
