Ghostlight Theatre, 13541 W. Camino Del Sol, celebrates its return to the stage with the world premiere of Helene Benigno’s original dramatic comedy, “The Price of Destiny,” opening April 15.
Ms. Benigno, also directing the play, asks, “What happens when you get what you want and realize it might not be what you need?” Her lead character will face this quandary in a light-hearted, fun celebration of a return to live theater.
Kara Connell, played by Rachel Cummings, devoted her life to becoming a movie star, and now she has made the big time. However, she didn’t count on having to deal with a scandal involving her high school crush, staff with their own agendas, a boyfriend who is never available and her family coming for a visit at the absolute worst time. There are definitive downsides to achieving your dreams. If only someone had warned her.
“I’m excited to be back on the stage after an almost four-year hiatus,” Ms. Cummings said. During this time, she was nominated for an ariZoni award for directing “Charlotte’s Web” at Stage Left Productions.
The ariZoni Theatre Awards is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting the visibility and growth of theater in the Valley of the Sun and Maricopa County. Ms. Cummings earned her bachelor’s in theater from Grand Canyon University and her master’s in strategic communication from Liberty University.
Writer and director of this world premiere production, Ms. Benigno’s work has been the recipient of numerous AriZoni nominations over the years. Her theatrical resume includes many acting roles in New York, Boston and Arizona, the direction of more than 20 productions and playwright of five original shows.
Ms. Benigno warns seating for this show is extremely limited, as all state and CDC guidelines for live theater will be followed.
“It is our intention to keep everyone as safe as possible,” she stated. “For a full list of guidelines for audience safety, please visit ghostlightazcom. Actors will not be wearing masks, but masking is required for the audience.”
Tickets are $25.
