Posted

George William Betebenner, 91, of Sun City West, Arizona, passed away on March 18, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona.
George was born in Boise, Idaho on November 17, 1931, to Harry and Pauline Betebenner. He grew up there attending St. Joseph's Catholic School and Boise High School, from which he graduated in 1949.
Following graduation, George attended Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) and graduated with degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Tau, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu engineering honorary societies.
He also became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves where he flew jet aircraft. His fascination with flying endured throughout his life. One would always see George looking to the skies when hearing an airplane flying overhead.
Soon thereafter, he began a three-decade long career as an electrical engineer with Mountain Bell/US West and started a family, eventually growing to four children. George was a dedicated and loving father to his children, doing anything to be with them.
Upon his retirement, the warm weather of Arizona soon pulled him south where he eventually took up permanent residence.
He enjoyed his time playing racquet sports with friends at the SCW Rec Center and attending his grandchildren's plays, recitals and sporting events. He was also a big supporter of his wife, Sharleen's performances at the Stardust Theater.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharleen; daughter, Cecilia (Richard Heys); daughter, Rebecca (Greg Grindey); and son, Damian (Cigdem Kilic Betebenner). In addition, he is survived by his five grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew, Ronan, Kaden, and Silan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Betebenner, his parents, and his four siblings.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr, Sun City West, AZ
