AARP Historic Chapter No. 1 of Youngtown will host its 9th Annual Health, Safety & Pet Festival 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 in the large parking lot of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, 11025 N. 111th Ave., Sun City.
The event will kick off with a free pancake breakfast hosted by church members. The breakfast will be served 7:30-10 a.m. in the large hall behind the church and will include free pancakes, sausages, coffee and juice.
The festival itself will feature more than 50 local senior, health, safety and pet focused businesses displaying products and services. Visitors can learn about and collect resources from organizations exhibiting everything from senior care and assisted living facilities to a pharmacy, audiologist, botanicals and CBD oils, insurance, education and special state AARP programs.
There will be a multitude of local Youngtown and Sun City community clubs showing and selling crafts, jewelry, woodworking, art and household items. Several local shelters will have pets on site and adoptions will be available. There will be giveaways and raffle prizes as well. Later in the morning there will be local fare from several food trucks on site.
The event is family friendly and free for the public. To be an exhibitor call Ginny Creager at 928-595-4405 or Jay Lickus at 623-734-5438. There is a $25 fee to be an exhibitor.
AARP Historic Chapter No. 1 was the very first chapter in the United states, founded on Sept. 23, 1960 and incorporated Oct. 20, 1969.
Monthly meetings take place 5 p.m. the first Friday of every month in the Youngtown Clubhouse and Council Chambers, 12033 N. Club House Square, Youngtown. Guests must be a current AARP national member. Club dues are $10 per year.
