Ford: Buy extra, donate to Valley View

I met Jesse Ramirez, Valley View Community Food Bank founder and director, a year ago and am constantly amazed at how much he does with so little.

Ford: Buy extra, donate to Valley View

Posted

I met Jesse Ramirez, Valley View Community Food Bank founder and director, a year ago and am constantly amazed at how much he does with so little.

I have a suggestion for all of us that can make his job easier. Once per month on one of our Sams runs, a friend and I make a purchase in addition to what we normally buy. When we leave Sams we immediately head to Valley View, 10771 W. Peoria Ave., to drop it off.

Normally, I budget between $10-15 for this purchase. Even if you can’t afford that or don’t shop at a club store, consider adding to your shopping list once per month. Jesse would tell you even one box of pasta helps.

Also consider the “buy one get one” deals. Keep one for yourself and donate the other.

My mother always taught me to give back. She knew as a child of the depression how so little makes such a big difference. She also constantly told us “there but for the grace of God go I.”
