Foley: Resident gave lot of help to disadvantaged

Posted

This letter concerns Warren Convoy, a low-sighted neighbor living in his Sun City West home alone since his wife passed away about eight years ago.

His doctor recently told him his eyesight would soon deteriorate to total blindness. Warren has decided to sell his home very soon. He walks  to the grocery store, crossing R.H. Johnson Boulevard and other busy intersections nearly every day and visits neighbors and friends often.

Warren took an active part in a request to Maricopa County to install a 4-way stop intersection at North 138th Avenue and Woodside Drive by attending meetings at PORA in Sun City West with several other residents. After he 4-way stop intersection was installed he asked the team leader to help with his project to update the four business district electronic pedestrian controls at four busy locations. He contacted Maricopa County Department of Transportation and three weeks later received communications back stating they agreed the locations were in need of voice controlled equipment. A short time later all four locations had been updated to the voice controlled equipment.

As mentioned earlier, Warren will be moving to a condo in Sun City. While living in Sandridge, Warren attended most monthly meetings and took interest in community meetings and attends religious services. Friends and neighbors will be sorry to see Warren leave. Warren is a good friend to many and is always ready to help.  His project of improving conditions at these locations will be realized for many years to come.
