Expecting RCSCW dues not to rise is ‘shortsighted,’ reader says

Posted

I wanted to share my opinion after reading Dottie Reedy’s letter about Recreation Centers of Sun City West dues not being fair.

I have been a resident of Sun City West  for 12 years. During that time the dues have gone up, sometimes more than I thought necessary and sometimes less.

My wife and I researched several over-55 communities in Arizona, both in the greater Phoenix/Maricopa County area and in the Tucson area. In most every case, dues go up on an annual basis. The cost of doing business goes up, as do goods and services, fuel, wages, etc. To expect no change is unrealistic and shortsighted.

We don’t compete with just other over-55 communities for staff, we compete with the entire business community in the county. RCSCW has to pay competitive wages and benefits.

We expect rec center facilities to be maintained and updated as necessary so that our community continues to present itself well to prospective buyers and the “outside” world.

The choice to not use our many facilities is purely each residents’ choice. Sun City West is an affordable and attractive community; we need to keep it that way.
