All but one fire fighter was out on a call when the pizzas were delivered, but the pizzas were enjoyed when the others returned. More pizzas were delivered to Sun City West Fire Station No. 101 the following day; the entire fire fighting crew on duty were there to enjoy hot pizza.

Meaningful community service has played a central role in DAR’s mission since the society’s founding in 1890.

“We want a society founded on service,” stated DAR Founder Eugenia Washington.

To honor the anniversary of DAR’s founding, chapters and members are encouraged to engage in service projects in their communities each year on or about Oct. 11. Projects may range from sending cards of encouragement to active duty military, collecting books for school children, cleaning a cemetery and more.

Daughters of the American Revolution Society was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism and these timeless overarching principles keep the DAR and its chapters strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world. Women descendants of persons who served or aided the cause of the Revolution are eligible to join.

Call Nancy Nixon, 623-332-7894, for information.

Estrella Chapter meets on the second Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
