Dugan: Other options for those who don’t like trees

Posted

Thank you Mary Lee (“Ask residents whether they want palms,” Sun City West Independent, Aug. 12, 2020) for your response to Jim Petrell (“Agree that palm trees should go, Sun City West Independent, Aug. 5, 2020) saying we should remove these “worthless trees.”

Yes, they take water and maintenance, but so do all of our plants here in Sun City West. Should we remove them also, where does it stop. Maybe we should get rid of all the beautiful flowers at the entrances, they also take water and care.

I love living where I can see flowers and flowering bushes all year long and cacti and palm trees of all kinds, having come from Minnesota where we had none of that. Driving down Bell Road in Sun City looks pretty lonely, no trees just rocks and gravel. I, for one, and I am not alone, having talked to many people about this in the last few weeks, love the landscaping here in Sun City West and do not want to see any of it go away.

Maybe if people don’t like the palms they should move north.
