Metro Creative Connection

Responding to Lynn Karason’s recent letter, Sun City West annual fees, spending concern reader:
I understand the concern her family rarely benefits from the Recreation Centers of Sun City West fees, but this is an active community for those that are either retired or hope to be soon.
One of the biggest attractions to Sun City West is the vast variety of activities residents can take part in. As per the question, “Do we really need seven golf courses?” The answer is “yes.”
Our courses are full all the time throughout the fall through spring season. In the summer, a few of the courses are shut down for maintenance projects as well as to save money when our population goes down for a few months.
Take time to look at the budgets posted regularly in this great paper. The courses generate much more revenue than they spend, which I’m sure helps other areas of our general budget. We don’t play golf free. We pay to play.
I’m sorry some are unable to take advantage of most activities but it is like taxes, the bills must be paid and we all have to contribute. Think of it this way: if one would move out of Sun City West, how much more would they pay on their property taxes? Probably more than the cost of one or two annual rec fees.
