Nearly 40 members of the Desert Garden Club gathered in the Beardsley Center’s Agave Room Nov. 20 to get the dirt on dirt. Tyler Clark, from Summer Winds Nursery, presented a seminar on improving the soil in the Sonoran Desert.
He reviewed the types of soil in the desert and which alternatives help the soil to produce healthy plants. He brought examples of the amendments and explained how to use them in the existing soil as well as in and around plants.
As part of adjusting the soil quality, Clark reviewed watering guidelines for cacti and aloes. Many attendees had questions which he expertly answered following the presentation.
