Daughters welcome state regent to Sun City West

Posted

The Estrella chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated the official visit of Arizona Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution State Regent Sarah Ziker, the induction of the first new member of 2025 and the welcome of a new associate member at its January membership meeting.

Ziker honored new member JoAnne Conner by administering the oath of membership during the induction ceremony. Conner became interested in DAR membership after performing with the Westwind Harmony Chorus at the chapter’s 2023 holiday luncheon.

Membership Chair Marsha Hanson introduced new associate member Marian Nielson. An associate member maintains full membership in their home DAR chapter and enjoys most of the privileges of her associated chapter.

Ziker said she became interested in researching her family lineage when her son was two and wanted him to know about his heritage. She descends from 36 proven Revolutionary War patriots. NSDAR members continue their work by promoting patriotism, education and historic preservation.

As state regent, Ziker will visit each of the 43 Arizona NSDAR chapters during her two-year term and share her state regent’s projects. Her central project is to sponsor an Honor Flight in April 2026 with 35 female veterans who may be DAR members.  Chapter Regent Laura Linton presented Ziker with a chapter contribution in support of her project.

Women descendants of persons who served or aided the cause of the Revolution are eligible to join the NSDAR. For more information about the Estrella chapter and DAR visit estrella.arizonadar.org or call Hanson at 623-606-3507.

The Estrella chapter meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
