Leslie Eaton, Chapter Member Registrar of the Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented a NSDAR certificate of excellence in community service and medal to chapter member Nancy Childress, for her volunteer work using crocheting and sewing skills to help others in the community.

Regent Twila Lobitz presented Childress with a vase of flowers.

Childress has belonged to the Prayer Shawl Ministries at the Sun City First Presbyterian Church for 15 years. Members of this group make baby layettes and donate them to mothers-to-be at Luke Air Force Base. She also crochets prayer shawls for those needing comfort and sews quilts and blankets for full and twin beds, which are donated to the Saint Anne Mission, Klagetoh, AZ, which serves the communities of Klagetoh, Wide Ruins and Cornfields on the Navajo Reservation.

Childress sews with Hospice Helpers at the Sun City Sewing Club and for more than seven years, she has been sewing adult bibs/clothing protectors for hospice care, foley skirts to cover catheter bags, therapy bags for heating or chilling wounds, carrot-shaped cotton filled bags to help those with clenched fist syndrome, crochet-covered noise makers for Dementia Activity pads, bath towel ponchos to cover dementia patients when they’ve showered and toss around bags for dementia patients. These are all donated to Hospice of the Valley to be distributed to those in need.

All of Childress’s volunteer hours qualify her for Services to America NSDAR hours for her contributions to the community.
