Craft club notes new date for workshop

Due to a recreation center scheduling conflict, Scrapbooking, Papercraft & More’s Galentine’s Day workshop for non-members has been re-scheduled to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Celebrated Feb. 13, Galentine’s Day is a day for women to acknowledge their gal-pals and recognize their support and friendship.
Workshop participants will craft greeting cards and other projects. Seats are limited; to register for the workshop call club president Lynne Marion at 440-666-6386.
Recently, SPAM held an all-day weekend crop; members had plenty of space to spread out their crafting supplies as they worked on paper projects, cards and scrapbooks, as well as enjoy a delicious noon-time potluck.
Additionally, two card making workshops were offered in which Judy Stacey taught members how to make the quadrilateral card using designer papers.
In the afternoon a lecture-demo called “Stop! Don’t throw that out!” was given by Judi Amoroso and Linda Stratton, who displayed over a hundred handmade cards incorporating recycled or salvaged materials and explained how they made the one-of-kind art cards.
Members were amazed at the variety and gained an appreciation of how everyday materials may be recycled for use in cards. Sample cards included soda can embellishments, embossed tin foil backgrounds, textured tea bag and corrugated paper canvases, background papers made with ink and shaving cream and so much more.
SPAM meets in Beardsley center’s Agave Room on Wednesdays (4-9 p.m./winter), Thursdays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), Fridays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
