Craft club makes plans for new year

Scrapbooking, Papercraft & More’s board members held a meeting the first week of January to plan the year’s events, including a few workshops designed to encourage other Sun City West residents interested in paper-crafting to check out the club.

A special workshop to celebrate Galentine’s Day is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28. Celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day is way for ladies to acknowledge their gal-pals and recognize the support and friendship they provide one another.

The workshop is open to non-members and projects will include card kits and papercrafts as well as refreshments and club members will assist visitors with assembly. Seats are limited; to register for the workshop or ask questions, call club president Lynne Marion at 440-666-6386.

SPAM also kicked-off the new year with their monthly Card Art Exchange; January’s theme was “winter wishes.” Two dozen members participated and exchanged one card with a fellow member; another two dozen cards were collected to give to residents in the SCW Meals on Wheels program.

New this year, the club, which is open 4-9 p.m. Wednesdays, will hold instructional workshops the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Members who have interesting paper crafting products or interesting artistic techniques will demonstrate them during Show & Tell night; unique or infrequently used crafting tools in the club’s vast inventory will be the focus of What’s in the Cupboard nights. “It’s a fun way for members to expand their creative horizons and get full use of all the club’s tools available to them,” said SPAM’s program coordinator, Tammie Frazier.

Those interested in papercrafts, cardmaking, or scrapbooking (traditional/digital) can drop by the club room, chat with members and check out SPAM’s state-of-the-art craft equipment; new member forms are available.

SPAM meets in Beardsley Rec Center’s Agave Room on Wednesdays (4-9 p.m./winter), Thursdays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), Fridays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
