Cohen: Great to be involved in our community

Posted

I think it’s great when you make the decision to get involved in our amazing Sun City West Community.

Ever since my wife, Enid, and I moved to Sun City West in the spring of 2018, we have both been involved at your hometown radio station, 103.1 KSCW.  Earlier this year I became president of the Broadcast Club of Sun City West, of which KSCW is the heart. I have been trying to help inform our community about events taking place and projects being done at the Recreation Centers of Sun City West via my weekly Rec Center Show on KSCW.

I also host Community Chat, which allows me to shine a spotlight on important Sun City West operations, such as the Sun City West Foundation, Community Fund, the Posse of Sun City West and the Valley View Community Food Bank. I also have been able to put a spotlight on the Alliance of Business and Community and the many blood drives and fundraiser activities the ABC is deeply involved in.

My wife takes care of the Broadcast Club social calendar and is right at my side when I record my shows in the KSCW studio.

In addition to KSCW, in September I was elected by the Sun City West Foundation to serve on the Foundation board. I am pleased to be able to bring my communications skills to the table and help get the word out about the important role the Foundation plays in Sun City West.

My wife and I are among countless volunteers involved in the Sun City West community and I highly recommend, if you are able, to get involved in some way. We have made many new friends as a result of our involvement and we are all there for each other and we are there for our community.

Editor’s Note: Gary Cohen is host of the Rec Center Show on 103.1 KSCW which airs 8 a.m. Tuesdays.
