Club president recognized at board meeting

Terri Reeves, Weavers West Guild president, was recognized at the May 28 meeting of the Sun City West governing board.

As noted by Sue Fitzsimons, governing board secretary, “Terri has shown exceptional leadership this past year and a half during the surprise relocation process as a part of the Kuentz remodel. Her calm matter of fact style and her attention to detail have been invaluable during the process. The Weavers had the pleasure of designing a new set of rooms, but the inconvenience of having to close down the club for six months requiring packing and storing of all looms and loom supplies in another location during the construction.”

Throughout this time, Ms. Fitzsimons states, Ms. Reeves kept in contact with the membership and garnered their support with written updates.

“As dates and plans changed,” Ms. Fitzsimons said, Ms. Reeves “worked with her board to redirect the club, all while keeping club members focused on weaving. She also communicated well with staff [and her] superior organizational skills made the process of packing a breeze, even with the challenges from the COVID 19 shutdown.”

Ms. Reeves, who will be moving to Oklahoma with her husband, responded to the recognition.

“Thank you so much for the recognition today,” she stated. “I appreciate the nomination from my fellow club member, Sue Fitzsimons.”

In February 2019, while she was serving as co-president of Weavers West, Ms. Reeves said members learned of the Keuntz expansion plan and how they would be affected.

“It was a surprise to our club,” she stated, “as we felt fortunate to have one of the largest, best equipped studio spaces in Arizona. After a little resistance to change, our members soon embraced the idea of construction and how we could improve on our already wonderful space.”

Ms. Reeves said it was easy for her to step up and volunteer to lead the project, especially when he knew “there were over 100 members standing with me, ready, willing and able to do all the work.”

She applauds the members of Weavers West as a “hard-working, creative group who were up to any challenge” and states that when the new studio re-opens in the fall, she encourages the board and Sun City West residents to visit the guild, so they can see “what these people can do with a little fiber, talent and imagination. You will be impressed with what you find.”
