Club hosts spring luncheon, auction in Sun City West

While planning Rip ‘N’ Sew’s spring luncheon, party chairman Valerie Holliday worried about the food. Specifically, would there be enough?

Holliday said she has been at parties where there wasn’t enough food and she was determined that wouldn’t happen.

The 65 club members who bought tickets feasted on sandwiches, raw vegetables, chips, cookies and water, she said. Members also could bring their own beverages. The luncheon food came from Basha’s. And because Holliday and her party committee planned for two sandwiches per person, there were leftovers.

“I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback,” she said.

The early April luncheon was held in the R.H. Johnson Social Hall in Sun City West. An auction was the entertainment and member donations for the auction filled three large tables.

“People were incredibly generous” with donations, Holliday said. They included aprons, pot holders, table runners, pinking shears, thread, fabric and other sewing-related items.

Each attendee got $360 in play money to bid on the auction items. Members who donated an item for the auction got an extra $50. Maryanne Edens was auctioneer and sold all the items.

Five other club members joined Holliday on the party planning committee. They made shallow snap-together baskets that decorated the tables. Each guest got to take home a basket.
