Briarwood Country Club, 20800 N. 135th Ave., conducted a fundraiser for the First Tee of Phoenix, sponsored by the country club since 2017.
About $3,300 was raised at the event.
The original member count was 21 and it is now up to 54. Three levels are now offered at Briarwood — Player, Par and Birdie. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons at the club.
The First Tee of Phoenix at Briarwood has developed nine tournament players who participate not only in First Tee events but also play in USKids and JGAA events.
First Tee of Phoenix officials believe Briarwood is a great home for children to learn the game of golf. The club has been instrumental in their development both as golfers and young people, according to First Tee officials. Members Norm and Diane Dow have been volunteers since the beginning and have been instrumental in the success of the organization, they added.
