Breast cancer basics, new treatments to be discussed

Residents can stay informed on new developments in breast cancer care by joining Sun Health Foundation on Zoom for the next Coffee with Gina and Friends.
The virtual get-together will present “Breast Cancer Basics and New Advancements in Treatment” 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. Special guests from Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center will be Brittany Murphy, MD, MS, breast surgical oncologist; and Hannah Lawther, MD, breast radiologist.
Dr. Murphy completed her general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, dedicating a year of training to surgical outcomes researched focused on breast cancer, and a breast surgical oncology fellowship at University of Texas MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. She will discuss how breast cancer is diagnosed, basics about how it is treated and innovative options.
Dr. Lawther completed her Diagnostic Radiology Residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and a Women’s Imaging Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She will talk about imaging, when to start and stop screening, indications for MRI and the radiology services available.
The more women know about new developments in breast cancer care, the more empowered they will be in their health and wellbeing, according to the two physicians.
This presentation is part of an educational series of virtual get-togethers hosted by Gina Ore, Sun Health Foundation chief philanthropy officer.
