Boomers Lounge Night gets interactive in Sun City West

Posted

The musician Old Porch Dog (otherwise known as Larry Kubiak) performed at the Boomers Club’s June Lounge Night, often accompanied by club members. One of the highlights of the evenings was when Bonnie Miller was encouraged to accompany the guitarist with a metal washboard vest. Hanging from her shoulders, the vest was played as a percussion instrument by striking it or rubbing it with metal spoons. Generally used in zydeco music this “rubbboard” or “frottoir” creates a great sound. The monthly Lounge Night events in the Boomers clubhouse provide an opportunity to enjoy music by listening, dancing or, in this case, getting involved in creating the music itself.
