Benson: All factors should be considered

Posted

It is not my preoccupation to dwell nor is it my desire to mix words with the liberal Democrats.

But after reading the front page article (“Protesters gather on R.H. Johnson,” Sun City West Independent, June 24, 2020) in which some distraught, misinformed Democrats were quoted, it is my duty to reply.

First I would suggest to these liberals that before they pass these men that were killed by white police officers into sainthood they consider not only how they died but how they respected the laws before they died!

By their words, quoted in the Independent, the interviewed Democrats used “political correct” scam when they called dissenters to their cause racists. It should also be considered there were only 50 protesters expounding their hatred for the police, our president and our laws. With the so-called peaceful demonstrations in the cities where Democrats are in power, anarchy has showed it’s ugly face.

The “ Black Lives Matter” movement has been taken over by anarchists who have been destroying everything in their path. This movement has lost its credibility. I am angered by those who are tearing down statues that are part of our history. Also on their hit list is our traditions. Where will this end? The answer should be obvious to everyone, It will end when good Americans stop it or when anarchy reigns.

On the opinion page of this paper, a demonstrator quoted John Lindsey, the Mayor of New York City from 1966 to 1976. He did not quote the whole quotation. I will paraphrase it. “Murder and crime on the streets is the price we pay for freedom.”

Western New York is where I used to live. I remember this article. It was a guest editorial in Life Magazine. I was disgusted with it then and I remember there were a lot of negative articles written about it. Lindsey would fit right in with the present New York City mayor and New York governor. Lindsey was, of course, a liberal Democrat.

The protesters seem to think no one but them cares. The police are seen where there is a problem, be it law enforcement or a humanitarian emergency. So there must have been one of these reasons why the police were where these men of color were killed. Police departments exist because evil exists in the world. The use of force by police is never pretty, but necessary to save lives.
