Benevilla to host vaccine event

Northwest Valley residents struggling with getting their COVID-19 vaccination shots will have an opportunity during a special clinic hosted by Benevilla.

The event is scheduled  8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the main Benevilla campus, 16752 N. Greasewood St, Surprise. The event requires easy to complete reservations and consent forms found on the Benevilla website, https://benevilla.org/benevilla-vaccine-clinics/.

Although all community members 18 and older are welcome, Benevilla’s  COVID-19 vaccine will be prioritized for adults 55 and older, health care personnel, long-term care facility residents and frontline essential workers as defined by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. This clinic provides seniors with a safer and more familiar vaccine location. This reduces anxieties and fears surrounding the vaccine and makes for a more pleasant experience, according to Benevilla officials.

“In January, our Benevilla Home Services Program embarked on a mission to help create safe and simple access to the coronavirus vaccine for the sick and shut-in seniors we serve. Through an amazing partnership with Albertsons Osco Pharmacy in Surprise, we have not only been able to help our members but also extended this essential opportunity to other populations in the community we serve. Our goals are ambitious, and our mission is pure of heart. We strive to provide solutions, resources and peace of mind,” said Camrron Anderson Benevilla CARES and Home Services director.

Transportation options are also available. Benevilla CARES sustaining partner NeighborCare will provide free rides to the Benevilla vaccine clinic to those in need. Contact NeighborCare at 602-502-6946 or https://neighborcareservices.com/.

Valley of the Sun YMCA will also transport any seniors needing assistance to any COVID-19 vaccination site within Maricopa county. To qualify for a free ride, the individual must be 65 or older and have a vaccine appointment. All ride scheduling and volunteer inquiries will be handled through the YOPAS phone hotline at 602-212-6088 or via email to opas@vosymca.org.

Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, Arizona’s Medicaid agency, is reimbursing their contracted driving services for transportation to and from vaccine appointments, including time spent waiting in line during the drive-through vaccination process. The rides count as “non-emergency medical transportation” and are now a covered expense, agency officials said. Medicaid beneficiaries who have a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination appointment at a drive-through site in Arizona can contact their health plan to schedule nonemergency transportation to attend that appointment, AHCCCS officials said.

“Benevilla is doing our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and working hard towards a safer and healthier community for all. Thank you to Bank of America and the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust for their generous support of the Benevilla Vaccine Clinics,” said Joanne Thomson, Benevilla president and chief executive officer.

Future Benevilla vaccine clinics are scheduled Saturday, July 17 — registration starts Monday, June 28 — and Saturday, Oct. 2 — registration start Monday, Sept. 6t. For additional information or support in registering, call 623-584-4999.
