Bellevue Heights Church is hosting a series of events, with a theme of “Journey to the Cross and Beyond,” Wednesdays through March 31.

Each Wednesday during Lent, a soup and sandwich luncheon will be served at noon in Franklin Hall on the church campus, 9440 W. Hutton Drive. All are welcome to attend. There is no set price for the lunch; diners may donate whatever amount they want.
Lunch will be followed each week by a 20-minute meditation related to the spiritual journey of Lent and will feature a member of the pastoral staff.

From 10 a.m. to 2p.m. during the Wednesdays of this special emphasis, 12 large paintings depicting various aspects of the last week of Christ’s life will be on display in the Bellevue Heights worship center. These lighted works of art will be accompanied by narrative descriptions for each.

In addition, Rev. Dr. Rob Boyd will be welcomed as senior pastor at Bellevue Heights Church during weekend worship services Feb. 27 and 28. Dr. Boyd will lead the Sun City congregation, following 18 years as senior pastor at Green Valley Baptist Church in Henderson, Nevada. He follows Dr. Tim Andersen who retired in January.

Pastor Boyd has been involved in Christian ministry for 34 years, having also served Baptist Churches in El Paso, Texas, along with Clinton and Indianola, both in Mississippi. He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees from New Orleans Theological Seminary. He is supported in ministry by his wife, Lisa, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. They have been married 30 years and have two adult sons.

The new senior pastor is committed to leading a dynamic church that desires to honor God by fulfilling His call to grow, baptize and teach followers of Jesus Christ.

“I love God, and I love people,” he said. “My sole authority for life and ministry is the Word of God.”
