The Artistic Hand Lettering, Cards and Mixed Media Club collected money from club members along with a matching donation from an anonymous source and presented a check for $3,770 to the Valley View Food Bank.
The food bank serves more than 170 Sun City West residents alone.
Jessie Ramirez, the food banks manager, said 100% of the funds will be used entirely to purchase food. Food bank administrative staff are paid out of proceeds from their thrift stores in Sun City West and Sun City.
The Sun City West Foundation allows the food bank to utilize the Powell Room (corner of Stardust and R.H. Johnson) as their location to collect and distribute food items 9 a.m.-noon Mondays.
“Due to the relationship we have with area food distributors, these funds will allow us to purchase a substantial amount of food. I cannot thank the club enough for what they do,” states Ramirez, founder of the food bank.
In addition, 91 members of the club makes cards throughout the year that are donated and sold at the thrift stores located on Camino del Sol. Look for a homemade card for $2 each visit the store.
